I have been busy stripping wallpaper on the landing and touching up the white paintwork which was only done last year. Today though I took a break to go to the theatre to see Edmond de Bergerac at the Rep in Birmingham. As it was a matinee and a lovely sunny day I took the bus as it's easier (and cheaper) than taking the car. With all the roadworks going on in the city you're never quite sure where you're going to be sent.
The play was excellent, a good laugh. It starred (amongst others) Josie Lawrence who was born in Old HIll where I used to live, Freddie Fox (Edward Fox's son) and Henry Goodman who was in the ABC murders on TV over Christmas.
Well, besides collecting my funeral plan I have made a start on emptying the hall, stairs and landing ready for decorating. I have been working my way through the house over the past few years and this will be the last thing to do,
Earlier this year I tackled my craft room which was a disaster zone. It was so full of stuff I couldn't get in there to do anything! Anyway, after much effort, help from my son, and several trips to the charity shop with crates and bags it is now all freshly decorated and tidy. (Note to self - I must not buy any more wool or material!).
Well, I've done it at last. Today I've retired from work! They say today is the first day of the rest of your life and for me it certainly will be.
It has taken me a while to make the decision but now I am really looking forward to it. I will miss the people I worked with very much and I hope we can all stay in touch and meet up some time. I was given theatre vouchers and a lovely engraved pen and pencil set as my leaving present as well as beautiful flowers, wine and a very pretty necklace..
A couple of people asked me what I was going to do on my first day of retirement, well, besides having a lie in I am actually going to collect the paperwork for my pre-paid funeral plan from the local funeral directors!
Apart from that though I have lots I want to do in the house, a room full of craft materials waiting for me and trips in the caravan planned, so watch this space and I'll keep you posted.
I am Jenny (when I was little my dad always called me Jenny Wren) and I enjoy making hand crafted things. Watch this space to see what I am working on.
