Sunday was Mothers day and I was invited to dinner with Mark and Michelle. Richard and Debbie had already given me flowers when I saw them last week and a present of two craft sets which I opened on the day.
Bureau now all finished and back in place. I had to get some plywood cut to make a new bottom for the drawer and find a small strip of wood to replace the runner which was missing. The drawer handles and other knobs would not come off so had to spray some gold paint into the lid of the can and paint them with a small brush. It took about four coats. Looks better though I think. Just need to find some nice black and white pictures for the new frames which I had from a charity shop somewhere on my travels last year. I have started to move some of the stuff from the loft into the shed but to give you an idea of the work required to clear my loft here are a few pictures..... Mark and Michelle came on Saturday morning to help with the loft. Mark sorted out all the radio controlled stuff and passed it down to me. I swept the dust off with the sweeper and passed it to Michelle who carried it down and stacked it in the hall...and kitchen. Mark then loaded up the car, right to the roof. Most of it is probably no good as it is very old and some is broken but at least it helps to empty the loft and gives Mark a chance to sort through it and decide what to keep. (He has a tip slot booked for tomorrow afternoon!). We then rewarded ourselves with hot chocolate and brownies. Later I sorted out some rubbish for the tip and stacked it in the conservatory. Have got someone coming to do some work in the loft at the end of May, putting down extra boards, better insulation and a light. This has meant that I needed to sort out the shed so that some of the stuff from the loft can go in there and also so that I could have the four bookcases off Mark that he has been storing for me in his shed so he can make room in there for all his radio modelling stuff that is currently in my loft! Follow? Off the top of my head I think there is a Messerschmitt, Spitfire, trainer plane, glider, helicopter, boat, two cars and all the radio gear. Anyway the first step was to empty Marks shed by bringing the bookcases over to me. He then helped me to empty my shed and load up the car for the tip. The next job was to to put some proper flooring down so I used the left over foil insulation from the conservatory first, then laid some fibreboard panels over that and then some lino. Finally I installed the four bookcases. Just need to get it all organised now and then the next step to empty the loft!
Had a bit of a change to the shelves in the porch. They used to have a tea set on that is now in the conservatory and which I replaced with other bits and pieces but was not happy. I thought they they looked a mess so have replaced with my collection of dark blue storage jars. Much better. I have also finally got around to painting the bureau that I had off the car boot. I have been struggling to decide what colour to paint it but finally decided on black. Needs another coat but looking good. Went to the Spring Craft Show at the NEC today. First time for two years due to the pandemic. There didn't seem as many exhibitors as usual and was not too busy. Still nice to have a look round though and pick up a few ideas. Bought a few things as well.
Cloakroom all finished and everything back in. Managed to get down to 17 coats! Have finally finished my Water Garden blanket. The edging should have been all green but I did the last two rows in white and yellow which I think looks prettier. Went to the theatre in Malvern this afternoon to see An Hour and a Half Late with Griff Rhys Jones and Janie Dee which was very good. Very amusing with some good one liners.
Had the caravan serviced yesterday. My friend Jackie's husband Piete did the service and Jackie spent the day with me. Decided to take her to the new scrapstore in Birmingham and MIchelle very kindly came with us to show me where it is. We came out with all sorts of odd things which is the fun of it. You don't know what you might find in there. Amongst other things I got a new enamel roasting tin with lid and Jackie got some huge bright orange foam tubes to protect the new trees they have planted in the garden from deer.
We then popped to the market in Blackheath and I picked up some goodies for the caravan. I was going to keep it out for the weekend and get it ready to use but I had difficulties booking a pitch and then it started to rain so I abandoned that idea. Anyway the service went well and it has a clean bill of health. Today I have been painting the little cloakroom. First I had to empty it and it was like emptying the Tardis, the stuff just kept coming and coming! I don't know how a room just 2' 6" square can hold so much! Caravan awning and poles, picnic table, two picnic chairs, two cool bags, beach tent, yoga mat, two sweepers ...... Anyway all done now except for a second coat on the woodwork and then everything has to go back in. Do I really need 19 coats? Still trying to catch up on bits and pieces. Ages ago I bought some lime green net to go inside the door to the walk in wardrobe but have never got around to making it up. In the week I hemmed it ready and today I got some curtain wire from the market and finished it off.
