Below is a picture of my latest acquisition. I have always wanted one to display in the laundry room and happened to come across one for sale at the right price on Facebook so I fetched it yesterday. It looks as if it has had good use which is great, and goes with the washing tongs. (For anyone that doesn't know what it is it's a washboard. When not being used for washing they were used by skiffle groups in the 50s).
Last day of June! Scary. Longest day has been and gone. Excited though as I will be able to use the caravan this weekend. Yay!! Went to the storage yard today to take lots of stuff back and get it ready for use. I take a lot of things out in the Autumn when I put it away. Anything that could go damp or rusty, anything that could deteriorate (e.g. things with batteries in) or anything that could freeze. Basically all that's left in is crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. I will take the rest of the things the weekend. I am just going to get the van out onto the field at the front for a few days and hopefully Mark and Michelle will join me. The good thing about caravans is you have your own little bubble, you don't share anything with anyone else. Below is a picture of my latest acquisition. Took all of my work equipment back to the office in Stoneleigh Park, Coventry on Thursday. I officially finished my contract at the end of March but have been unable to return the equipment due to lockdown. Now that it has eased a little I took the opportunity to take it back and then met up with my friend Jackie. It was lovely to see her and we had a good catch up. She very kindly gave me some craft magazines and lots of knitting needles. The fabric arrived for the backing of the 'badger' quilt so I finished that. It is a plain dark grey. It's very difficult to buy fabric on line as you can't see the colours properly and you can't feel the thickness of the material. It turned out to be a little thicker than I would have chosen but will be OK and is a good badger colour. I sorted out the knitting needles from Jackie and asked Debbie if she would like the spares as I know she has been knitting. She was delighted as Brendyn and Olivia are also knitting. I went over to see them all today and we sat in the garden. We were going to the common but it was very windy and threatening to rain. It was great to see them as I have only seen them once since March and they gave me a patio set for the garden.
My bathroom is now in its summer colours of teal and kingfisher blue and white. Hoorah! my rose and peony quilt is finished. Wrestling with a large quilt to turn it though, fit the filling and top stitch round the edges is not what you want to do on a hot day but all done now. I used plain deep rose pink fabric for the backing. Had a nice picnic in the park again at lunchtime with Mark, Michelle, Anais and Roman. We sat under a tree as it was too hot to sit in the sun.
Final of the Great British Sewing Bee tonight! Have started a new quilt. This one is quite different to the last, more structured rather than random and using square blocks rather than oblong brick pattern. It is based around a set of napkins that I bought from a car boot last year. They were brand new and I also have the table cloth and place mats as well. The pattern is Sanderson rose and peony. To contrast with the flowery material I chose some plain cream and deep rose pink. I have embellished the plain squares using contrasting scraps of material, some cream cotton lace and some small rosebuds. I sketched out my designs first and then made up the squares. There are 24 flowery squares and four of each of the others. I laid them out on the floor and am now starting to stitch them together in rows.
Have been working on the the 'badger' quilt and now have all of the pieces stitched together and ready for backing. First I sorted the pieces into 10 piles of 8 with a variety of patterns in each pile. Next I stitched them into strips, being careful not to have the same or very similar squares, next to one another and keeping the colours and patterns balanced. I have the polyester filling and have ordered some material for the backing as I had nothing suitable. Difficult to photograph as it is quite large, 50" x 60".
My latest sewing project is a black, white and grey 'badger' themed quilt which I am planning on giving to Secret World Wildlife Rescue in Somerset so they can raffle it off and raise some money. I have 'adopted' three animals from them already, a hedgehog, an owl and a deer. The hedgehog for Anais and Roman, the owl for Brendyn and Olivia and the deer for me. I had collected some nice things which I was going to take to their charity shop in Burnham on Sea when we went there on holiday for Whit week. That of course didn't happen so I thought I would do this instead. All of the squares (80 full size + 10 half size) are now cut out and ready for embellishment before being joined together. I have also been sorting out some photographs to upload to my family tree on Ancestry and came across some pretty photo frames that I had forgotten about. I selected some pictures to put in them and they are now hanging on the wall on the landing. On Saturday I met up again with Mark, Michelle, Anais and Roman for a picnic in their local park. This time I took a couple of photos.
Can't believe it's June! All scrubs finished and delivered to the collection point at Asda, Barnes Hill. I have made 3 XL, 3 L and 1 additional XL top that had to have different coloured sleeves so I used the contrast for the trims as well. I also handed in the burgundy set in M as well. This takes my total to 40 complete sets and 5 extra tops. Time for a break I think. Met up with Mark, Michelle, Anais and Roman for a picnic in their local park which was really nice. We sat beside a little stream and the weather was beautiful. Must do it again some time.
