Day 26 of my big adventure and no work today, not until Monday. Yay!

Beautiful sunny morning, blue sky, no breeze, perfect day for visiting Lands End. On the way there I stopped off to visit the Minack theatre. Built by a lady called Rowena Cade and started in 1931 it is amazing. Well worth a visit. Check out the webcam on the website.
Next stop Lands End. Unfortunately it seems to have been taken over by Merlin, not the magician, the theme park people. Still the view was unspoilt. There were a few anchors about. I wondered if any of them were made in the Black Country but there were no makers names on them. Sat on a rock to eat a Cornish pasty (had to be done!)
Sennan Cove.

Day 24 of my big adventure.

Work this morning but as the weather was nice and sunny went to St Ives this afternoon. Parked on a car park way up above the town. Shuttle buses were available to take people down into the town and the harbour. Decided to walk but very steep going down. Place was very, very busy. Car park was full and about 10 coaches. Nice harbour and beaches. Tide was out. Town full of little streets but impossible to take any photos because of the amount of people. Caught the shuttle bus back up to the car park.
Sat out in the sun when I got back, watching the rabbits.

Day 23 of my big adventure.

Cloudy and windy today but did not look too threatening so thought I would go and take a look at the tin mines around St Just.

The Levant mine is National Trust so I booked myself a place on a tour and headed off. You actually have to park at another mine which is not NT and walk about 1/4 mile across the cliff top to reach the Lavant mine. Lots of old mine workings in that area, mostly just the chimneys left now. The other buildings being gradually dismantled for the stone they were built with which was granite. The tour was very interesting and informative, explaining what life was like for the miners in the 18 hundreds. At first they didn't even have a cage to lift them up and down but had to use ladders. Gradually these was replaced by a beam engine, driven by steam which hauled the men and the ore up and down. The engine is still working, though no longer coal fired. It was fascinating to watch. Photos were difficult as it is all caged in for safety reasons. (Rightly so, it was a beast with a massive flywheel!). They mined both copper and tin, the latter being at the lower levels, and tunnelled out right under the sea. The plan below is for the Geevor mine, which closed in 1986. The Lavant mine is on the very far left and closed in 1936.
Just as the tour was coming to an end it started to rain so I got quite wet walking back across the cliff top. Luckily the Geevor mine has a cafe so I popped in for a much needed scone and cup of tea. The rain has not stopped since.

Day 22 of my big adventure and not such a nice day today. Rained in the morning but then stopped and didn't look too threatening so went out to explore. Was very windy though, especially by the sea.

First stop Penzance which is quite a big, busy town about five miles away. Parked near the harbour and had a walk round. There are actually two harbours, one for small pleasure craft and one for larger working vessels. There is a swing bridge to allow vessels to enter the dry dock though the tide was out when I took the photos. I saw a couple of people walking out to their boats in wellingtons.
Next stop was Newlyn which was a smaller harbour. Still views of St Michael's Mount.
Final stop was Mousehole which is a small fishing village with steep narrow lanes leading down to the harbour. Headed back then and later had heavy rain with thunder and lightening.

Day 21 of my big adventure and my fourth destination.

I am now at Marazion which is right at the bottom of Cornwall. The site is a couple of miles inland and surrounded by countryside again.
In the afternoon I had a drive into Marazion where there is a lovely beach and a causeway across to St Michael's Mount. The weather has been quite hot today so it has been nice to sit in the sun and enjoy the view.

Day 20 of my big adventure and my last day at Camelford.

Went to a National trust property called Lanhydrock, just outside Bodmin. The house was split into three areas, the kitchen, the family rooms and the best rooms so I have grouped the photos into three as well as some of the outside of the house and the grounds. There was also a church.

Day 19 of my big adventure.

Another nice day though not quite as good as yesterday. Worked this morning but went out this afternoon. First stop Padstow. Very nice but very busy. Full of lovely clothes shops. Had some lunch in a cafe by the harbour.
Next stop Watergate Bay. Another surfing beach and very popular.

Day 18 of my big adventure and a beautiful sunny day.

The weather yesterday and Sunday was not so good, rather cloudy. On Sunday I decided it was not nice enough to go to the coast so I headed inland to Bodmin moor to find Jamaica Inn. Well, what a disappointment!. It was not at all as I remember it when I last visited which I admit was probably nearly sixty years ago on a coach trip with my grandma and granddad. I remember it being just at the side of the road and in my mind it was whitewashed. The main A30 road is now a duel carriageway and Jamaica Inn is in a little side road just off the main road. It is now a hotel and is surrounded by so many newer buildings that it's hard to tell which bit is the original inn. And.. it's not whitewashed at all. Anyway took a couple of photos of what I think is the original inn, behind the beer garden!!!

I was working on Monday but decided to go out later in the afternoon to get some fresh air. Walked down into Camelford which is rather strange little town, full of odd shops, most of which were closed anyway. I did find a nice little park though at the side of a little river. Very pretty.
Today as I said has been a lovely sunny, warm day so I headed first to Port Isaac. It was very much as I expected it to be, having seen it so many times on TV in Doc Martin and at the cinema in Fisherman's Friends. It was really busy so I dread to think what it must be like in the main summer holidays. There were little groups going on Doc Martin tours!. I did look around for some of the filming locations and recognised a few, the school, Louisa's house, Bert's restaurant, and of course Doc Martin's house. Bought a postcard with them all on. I think I have managed to capture 5 out of the 8.
Next stop was Polzeath. A stunningly beautiful beach which is very popular with surfers.

Day 15 of my big adventure and I am now in Camelford, North Cornwall. The site is busier than the last one but still peaceful and surrounded by countryside.

The Old Post Office at Tintagel and a view out to sea.

Day fourteen of my big adventure and the last day at Umberleigh. Moving on tomorrow. Can't believe two weeks have gone already.

Weather a bit threatening this morning but went quite sunny later, though windy. Didn't want to do any more driving, roads round here are not fun, so caught the local train from Umberleigh station to Bridgewater. Station is the other side of the river to the town so nice walk over the bridge to the shops. Went round the Pannier market in Butchers Row, had a cake and coffee in Greggs and caught the train back again.

Used the washing machine and dryer on site to do some washing which dried nicely in the sun and the breeze.
